Rave On Air
Its taken me a while to put this post up because I been worried about releasing the brand too early. But I have time and no-one reads me blog so it should be OK.
Rave On Air is ravensbournes annual showcase of student work. Its a three day event where Ravensbourne is turned into a television station/broadcast expo. There are two channel's with content put on by the Broadcast students a fashion show amongst other exciting bits. My course (design for moving image) had to compete against each other (my first competetive pitch) to brand the entire event.
My team consisting of Hannah Newson, James Taylor and myself won the pitch!
So here is the brand we won with,
This was our brand DNA. We thought that there was conflict in the brand DNA between the words Individuality and Unity. So this is where our brand solution came from. This brand DNA is pretty much what the brief told us these are just our key words. It ended up that every group had pretty much the same brand DNA as ours but our solution really clinched it for us because it really works.
The brand solution / metaphor is PATCHWORK. So if you think of a patchwork quilt its alot of very idividual pieces sewn together to make a whole. This is what Rave On Air is and always will be.
This leads us onto the Logo. This was the hardest thing we had to do. Everything else just comes very naturally but the Logo caused alot of heated debates! The problem we were having was we were trying to represent our Patchwork metaphor very literally so people would understand what the brand was just by looking at the logo.
These are some of our first ideas
Then one we settled on for a while
Some animation tests I did
So the problem we were having is creating a mark which represented our core values. Then came the moment! We decided that the logo had to represent the finished product, the finished patchwork. Then from here the entire brand explores the pieces, explores through patchwork. So here it is, the logo and the brand so far.

Health and Safety Video
So here we are!! it took 5 of us 4 hours to do this, its an absolute piss take video for our PPD lesson (personal and professional development). Credits aren't accurate for the most part beings as everyone chipped in for everything really!! James Taylor did do the edit as well as sound with help from Hannah and I did the awful Graphics otherwise it was a group effort filmed in our livingroom!! its how university should be!

Lets Make Juice
A quick project. Working with Tom Wisdom (producer of The Art Show) we decided to do a short fun film in 7 days. The result is the creative juice. We wanted a stop motion feel which was achieved in the edit by Given. We shot some stop motion pieces (cowboy, plasticine cut and blend which seem to work nicely with the graphic pieces I created for it which included some victorian wallpaper. Not entirely happy with the result beings as we were so rushed to fit so much in. The final animation was very rushed and the audio peaks. Overall a fun project to do!

Art Show
Working with Hannah Newson on this project we were approached by the producer Tom Wisdom to create titles and stings for his new live broadcast show called The Art Show. We had full creative control only working with one colour idea which was baby blue. With a short time frame we quickly got into After Effects to produce this in a few days.
Fishy
The creative brief we got this term was a class project. We chose a song collectively. The song chosen was Mr Scruff - Fish. What a tune!! So this song was then split into 20 equal segments and given randomly to the class (there being 20 people in my class). As the song is mainly samples of people talking about fish with no apparent narrative we decided to add an overlying theme which was Environmental Issues.
The brief was to represent the song and narrative in your segment. Working with the people either side of you on the transitions between your pieces.
As always with university projects i just want to experiment and learn as many skills as possible. So from the start I wanted to composite live action with stopframe and digital animation. Inspiration for which would be Noah Harris's work with E4 and most recently Ford.
For the narrative of the piece i wanted to do something comical yet challenging.
The idea I came up with; In response to human consumption of fish the fish are adding to the natural output of C0 2 from the sea by opening up massive soviet C0 2 tanks underwater thus adding to global warming and ending human existence.
This was one of the most laborious and enjoyable projects I have done to date. I spent Around 40/50 hours on the final 12 seconds. I learnt origami, went to central London at 4 in the morning for a 3 second shot and did lots of testing and random shooting with frosted glass and light filters to get the sea effect I was after.
ABOVE is a short making of video which should help explain.
Stop Frame
An aim of mine is to be able to work with claymation as it looks so much fun! so i have bought some modeling clay. just some cheap stuff and it seems to work pretty well so far! going to set up a scene with Hannah Newson later on to play around with moving stuff through environments.
